Best Movie Marketing Ever

So before the transformers movie there is a trailer for a unnamed JJ Abrams movie (right now it's going under the name "Cloverfield") The cool thing is, just like Lost, there are secret sites and trails around the internet with clues about the movie.

There is the site 1-18-08.com which used to have just one picture of two faces (some think it's actually one face). The site has now switched from html to flash and has two pictures in it that you can move around. Also there appears to be a demon in between the two faces in the original picture.

The site ethanhaaswasright.com has a number of puzzles you can solve (if you click the blue star your mail will open, if you send it you will get hints back via email, or you can get a full walk through here) between each puzzle is some video that has more clues about the movie.

There appears to also be a blog that is tied into the movie: ethanhaaswaswrong.blogspot.com.

*Edit* I found a couple more sites:

www.ethanhaas.org
stayunderground.blogspot.com

**UPDATE** It looks like the Ethan Haas sites are not conected.

But this site is somehow connected: www.slusho.jp

The upcoming months are going to be very cool.

The only problem
This kind of thing can be fun, but it almost never lives up to the hype, and hopefully doesn't create a backlash where it fails. I love Lost still even after it has gone a bit downhill, but when enjoying the show/movie becomes more like work, that's when i stop being as interested. I'd heard somewhere that Drew Goddard was the one doing the script for Watchmen, but i could be wrong. Also, not Godzilla, but close, Destroy All Monsters, or a type of remake of it is something i heard. Hopefully when more is revealed, we all dont go "oh, that's it?"

Re: The only problem
I have high hopes for it. Plus all this mystery stuff is fun regardless of how the movie turns out.

Re: The only problem
Don't get me wrong, i love games of all kinds, more so ARGs. I just remember the fiasco that was the Godzilla remake where they were so firm on keeping how he looked secret and the movie blew. :P I'm not expecting Citizen Cane, i can enjoy the stupidest of movies, I just want a good disaster/monster movie again so badly. ;)

Ethan Haas and 1-18-08
Ethan Haas and 1-18-08 do not actually appear to be linked. JJ Abrams sent a note to Ain't It Cool News saying that Ethan Haas has nothing to do with their promotion.

www.slusho.jp however does seem to be connected.

Pattern Recognition
Since I first heard about the clip, the marketing has eerily been similar to the "footage" phenomenon in William Gibson's Pattern Recognition... down to folks scouring the internet for new clues

Voltron
It's a Voltron movie.

Aside from the hints within all the viral marketing that refer to Voltron "lore", movie trailers are usually shown within the genre of the feature presentation, so it just makes sense. Voltron.

Re: Pattern Recognition
I don't think it's Voltron, based on this info:

and

Re: Who is Rachel Blake?
I think I saw this translated (the code) somewhere. Maybe at ethanhaaswaswrong.blogspot.com.

Although all the talk now is that Ethan Haas isn't connected
