I am not a huge fan of McDonald's (except their fries, Mmmmmmm) and usually I really hate their advertising (the whole "I'm lovin it" campaign drives me nuts.)
But this interactive outdoor ad in London is very clever. They are getting their logo into pictures and videos all over the web. (I found 127 flickr pics and 27 YouTube videos tagged with mcdonalds, piccadilly and circus.)

I don't remember ads from the 80's being this racy

I work in the advertising business, and I hear a lot of crazy ideas that are kicked around for ad concepts.
But nothing that would ever come close to the crazyness of these Japanese ads for high blood pressure, RubberDuckZilla and I Have a Bad Case of Diarrhea

You may have seen ads for the Snuggie, which has to be the dumbest thing I've seen advertised in a long time. I mean, it's a fucking blanket that makes you look like a cultist.
The weird thing is they are selling like crazy, there is even a waiting list!
Well this ad is perfect, this is how it should have been advertised, it's the actual ad with a different voice over.

Miller High Life has launched a new campaign that talks about how over priced a superbowl ad is. They are saying they would only run a one second ad (Which is sounds like they are going to do.)
Here are the one second ads that aren't making the cut.

I have three spots for you today, two are great and one is for nostalgia
First, this is possibly the best condom commercial ever made. (although the old Trojan Olympics ones were really good)
Second is a very good foreign Heineken commercial
Lastly, here is a Ricardo Montalban commercial from 1975 (this is where the "Corinthian leather" line comes from.

You may have seen Burger Kings new product and ad campaign for the Angry Whopper. In this ad you see a farmer abusing an onion while it's growing, turning it into an angry onion. The onion then unleashes itself, along with Jalapeno's and a spicy sauce, on you when you eat the Whopper.
The interesting thing is they have had this product out in Europe since last may at least October of '07. Each country has a different campaign. Check out the German one below. It features a Dom with a whip and a man in restraints.
Oh those crazy Germans.

You may have seen the new Burger King ads where they take away the Whopper to see what people will do.
They have a whole site dedicated to it: WhopperFreakout.com. Pretty funny what people do actually.
On Wednesday I met a guy who is good friends of one of the actors who are pretending to be BK employees. The guy is getting big money for this campaign I guess.

I wrote before about Sony Bravia and their great commercials Bouncy Balls and Paint. Well they did it again, they have a new kick ass ad out, this new one is titled Play-Doh. It's an incredible piece of stop motion animation. It took 40 animators 3 weeks to make it using 2.5 tons of Play-Doh.
Check it out the spot is fantastic. The site itself is really cool too.

The European films Commission made this awesome spot to promote their films, enjoy:

This is a great commercial:

It has downward facing sensors so when someone walks underneath the billboard it lights up.
The DJ awards were last night and I tied for 3rd place. This makes 4 years in a row that I've placed in the top 3 - which is pretty dang cool considering what I was up against.

A $2.5M Super Bowl Spot Proposal
One man is hoping to create one of the most memorable Super Bowl spots this year by proposing to his girlfriend during a $2.5 million 30-second commercial. The potential groom, who uses J.P. as a nickname to not reveal his identity, is actually trying to raise the funds needed to buy the spot (so far he has collected a mere $100,000) or find an advertiser who will put him in an ad. He says he'll donate any profits, including the $100,000 he may not use, to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. more....

Sony has a new advertising campaign out for their new TV the Sony Bravia.
They have created two fantastic commercials for this TV;
Bouncy Balls which features millions of bouncy balls being dumped on the streets of San Francisco. (This is also the most viewed product commercial in the history of YouTube)
The new ad I think is even cooler then the old one. The new one is ;Paint. This ad shows a dreary apartment complex that suddenly becomes covered by explosions of colored paint.
Neither ad was made using CG which is pretty cool.
Sony has taken this campaign in a very interesting direction. There is a web site for the commercials: www.bravia-advert.com. This site is only about the commercials. I couldn’t even find any info on the actual product (the TV). You can watch small documentaries on the making of the spots, you can see still images, there are downloads even a game, but hardly anything on the product itself.
If you have a good broadband connection watch the high resolution versions.
Here is the extended high res version of bouncy balls
Here is the high res version of paint

And you thought those people that set up roomfuls of dominos to knock over were amazing. There are no computer graphics or digital tricks in the film. Everything you see really happened in real time exactly as you see it.
The film took 606 takes. On the first 605 takes, something, usually very minor, didn't work. They would then have to set the whole thing up again. The crew spent weeks shooting night and day. By the time it was over, they were ready to change professions.
The film cost six million dollars and took three months to complete including full engineering of the sequence. In addition, it's two minutes long so every time Honda airs the film on British television, they're shelling out enough dough to keep any one of us in clover for a lifetime.
However, it is fast becoming the most downloaded advertisement in Internet history. Honda executives figure the ad will soon pay for its elf simply in "free viewings" (Honda isn't paying a dime to have you watch this commercial!).
When the ad was pitched to senior executives, they signed off on it immediately without any hesitation - including the costs.
There are six and only six hand-made Honda Accords in the world. To the horror of Honda engineers, the filmmakers disassembled two of them to make the film.
Everything you see in the film (aside from the walls, floor, ramp, and complete Honda Accord) is parts from those two cars.
The voiceover is Garrison Keillor. When the ad was shown to Honda executives, they liked it and commented on how amazing computer graphics have gotten.
They fell off their chairs when they found out it was for real. Oh, and about those funky windshield wipers. On the new Accords, the windshield wipers have water sensors and are designed to start doing their thing automatically as soon as they become wet.

Last friday I uploaded two commercials that my company made onto YouTube. I also asked people to share them.
I guess it worked; This one has had over 60,000 views since then! WOW!
So if you were someone that passed it on, thank you.

Check out this Super Soaker toy, the Oozinator. From the looks of it they should call it the Spuggeanator, or maybe the bukkake-nator.

Last night I went to the 2005 British Television Advertising Awards at the Walker. They are outstanding. If you are looking for something to do over the next couple of days (it only runs through the 23rd) it is very good.
