scary movies

Let Me Out
I am a big fan of scary movies. I've watched some pretty good scary movies in the past year or so. The Decent was very good, Wolf Creek was pretty entertaining, and of course I always love a good zombie movie, but tonight I just watched the scariest movie I have seen in years, if not ever; Jesus Camp was absolutely horrifying!

I highly recommend everyone watching this movie. You all need to see what is happening in this country, it is some scary ass shit!

PS You get to see some Ted Haggard footage that is pre-scandal - pretty fucking funny.

You think that's bad, you should see Hell House. It's a documentary about a bunch of Texas kids who put on a "Hell House" for Halloween...it's a haunted house where instead of ghosts, zombies, and vampires, the monsters are abortion doctors, gays, and ravers.

I agree The Descent is very cool. It's directed by Neil Marshall, who also made the werewolf movie Dog Soldiers.

We're showing both as a double feature in Cinema Rex Friday night of the con.

two ways to make a movie
The Descent is a good way to make a cave movie, the other end of the spectrum is The Cave (http://imdb.com/title/tt0402901/) really, really bad way to make a scary cave movie. :P

Jesus Camp and Hell House are funny if you never grew up surrounded by people like that and are glad you don't have to deal with them anymore.

peculiar, but not funny
I too grew up with people just like that,... (my sister still is just like that) and I now find their beliefs distinctly .... well, ... odd. …. and yes, ignorant.

But, the underlying message of Jesus Camp and Hell House is that, if such things gain ground and prosper, .... you WILL have to deal with people like that ... and that ain't gonna be funny.

Amen to that! That's why we need to watch this stuff to realize that these scary fucks are out there and they are gaining power.

Re: peculiar, but not funny
Yeah, i guess that was my point, that people need to be aware of how they really are, funny as in strange. When i saw Jesus Camp it just reminded me of some of the people i went to school with, and knew those types all too well. They had regular sermons about the evils of Dungeons and Dragons, dancing, while at the same time pouring pigs blood into a friends locker becuase they thought she was a satanist. I was more surprised people didn't know there were people like that out there. I also have seen how they will eat their own though, no one else is "good enough" and will start fighting amoungst themselves. You can kind of see it happening now with them and Cheney and the other republicans.

I heard bad things about The Cave, I'm glad I never saw it.

I found Jesus Camp more scary then funny.

We tried watching Jesus Camp during lunch one day, it really killed my appetite.

Two things that I found particularly outrageous about it, were the kids screaming in tongues and lolling around like they were on the verge of seizures, or in the throes of one, and the parents are going on abut how wonderful it is. I can respect being all "Go God!" but your kids could get seriously injured! That's not wonderful!
Secondly their arguments that global warming isn't an issue. Sure the overall "...global temperature has only changed .6 degrees...", but that's the worldwide average, of course the temperature in the heart of the jungle isn't going to have changed as much as it has on the Savannah. Morons.

Yea the kids speaking it tongues part was really fucked up.

I was thinking about the "it's only gone up .6 degrees in the last year" part. If you think about it that would mean the temperature is going up 1.2 degrees in two years and 6 degrees every decade. We are fucked if the earth heats up that fast.

You might be happy to know that the woman who ran Jesus Camp shut it down shortly after the movie was released. Of course she said it had nothing to do with the movie being released.
